Welcome to the Sound Foundations website, part of Walton's Way Sound Foundation music charity.
Who are we and what do we do?
The purpose of Sound Foundations is to provide opportunities for young children to enjoy, perform and be involved in every aspect of musical production that they have an interest in. This currently involves music tuition in schools and a Sunday Group, all culminating in two productions a year at the Mitchell Arts Centre in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.
You can see video of our previous productions by clicking on the 'Our Past Productions' Tab at the top of the page
What is our ethos?
The performers, aged between 5 and 18 are gathered from schools around Stoke-on-Trent and this is a celebration of their talents and the chance to perform on a ‘real’ stage, in front of a ‘real’ audience, with ‘real’ lights and ‘real’ pyrotechnics.
Since the beginning in 2014, one of the main aims of the Sound Foundations Project is to pass on as much responsibility to the children as we can. We want to avoid the adults showcasing themselves as ‘wannabees’ and avoid the long drawn-out thank-you speeches at the end. This project is all about the children, and with each event the children take on more control and more responsibility. From the ideas, the song choices, the presentation, control of the sound and lights to backstage organisation, we want it to be theirs.
How are we funded?
Most of our funding comes from the Walton's Way Music Charity as well as any subscriptions, profits from our productions and merchandising.
